Professional situation today

It is well known fact, that humanist professions are very lucrative nowadays. Since school a lot of young people suppose such profession to be very promising. With such an point of view they are brought up in their families, go to school, to a university and finally they begin bringing up their own children that way. Blind alley.
Why is it so? What do make people think that engineering sciences have lost their importance?
There are several reasons.
first modern engineering has got such a high extent of progress that society is capable of running it without having specialized engineering skill. thereby there is no point for further spreading of technical knowledge. Humanits application starts dominating in all aspects of life.
second it is an well known fact that we exist in the consumer society. People in it don’t want to work with their hands. They like to explain the world around and use products, but not to make something by themselves. Naturally this fact does not affect positively on diffusion of technical education. People are simply not interested in it.
In the third place is the fact that the resource base has reached such a extent of devastation that we frequently have no place for practice after learning the theory.
after all a very major thing is the policy of the state. What professions does it consider as needed nowadays? We can easily get to know it by watching our mass-media. The internet, the television, the radio, the press – what professions do they popularize today? It is easy to prove that they are full of non-technical images. Mass-media show us easy way of life in which there is no place for hard-work, but there are a lot of talks, beautiful scenes and fantasies.
What do we have as a result?
Lack of qualified workers in the engineering sphere. There are a lot of philosophers, lawyers, artists, singers, politicians, professors but a few people, able to operate for example a expensive jointer planer. This will lead to a difficult situation when we will be needing very simple things which are very important for our comfortable existence.
Besides that our education system is totally ruined. There is no technical literature of high quality – it is either sold or lost. There is no qualified lecturers able to educate worthy personnel working in non-humanist spheres.
Such is the picture. Sad, isn’t it?
Then, there is an adequate question: what should our state do in order to correct the situation? It seems to me that there are several actions to be taken. firstly our state should change its attitude towards technical professions and specialities and theirs future. education system should apply efforts in order to popularize engineering professions in mass-media.
And of course, the best way to save engineering specialities is to assign enough means both for the payment for the people who work in this sphere and to the creating an adequate resource base.
